PARTNERS

Councillor Alan Boad, Liberal Democrat, Leamington Crown Ward

The Union by Alumno Developments provides an excellent fully managed student residence into the heart of the Old Town in Leamington Spa. Not only does it bring the benefit of high quality ensuite accommodation for students, but it has regenerated a former industrial area and added to the Councils drive to improve our much neglected canalside through the town. I enjoyed the nod to a famous local artist that has been incorporated into the communal areas, making them that little bit different to the usual standard design

Apart from a stunning environment for students to live in it will also help the local community by both supporting local businesses and reducing the demand for buy to let’s for students, hopefully releasing lower cost housing into the traditional first time buyers market.

Harry Scrope, Brompton Bike Hire

“We thought David’s idea from Alumno (to collaborate) was a great one, we’re actively looking at new sites and places, across the whole country to provide our cycles for use by as many people as possible.”

MarkBell, Chair, Sheraton Park Residents Association.

‘Since planning was approved for the development, Sheraton Park Residents Association have been working with Alumno to ensure residents are kept fully informed including regular meetings, email contact and two open resident forums where local residents have been able to view the plans and discuss any concerns. Going forward we are looking forward to working with Alumno and Kier to manage the impact on residents during the construction works and to integrate the residents of the new development into our community. ‘

Angela Robson:

“The halls at All Saints Green provide our students at Norwich University of the Arts with exceptionally high quality and innovative accommodation. We are very pleased with this addition to our student experience”.

Dr. Anne Allen, Major Gifts Officer, Durham University Business School, Mill Hill Lane, Durham, DH! 3LB

‘It has been great to work with David and his team at Alumno Developments to realise the first Durham Business Game which will take place in March 2016.  The company understands that place-making is much more than design and construction, but is also about forging a meaningful relationship with the people who will inhabit the space and bring it to life.’

Nick Davie,  Assistant Director Estates and Facilities (Property and Space Management) Queen Mary University of London

“Queen Mary University of London, “QMUL” have been working with Alumno Developments Ltd since November 2013, in connection with the proposed development at 206-214 Stratford High Street, London E15.  The University were very pleased to support the planning application for this 440 bed student residence, and to attend the planning committee meeting on 25 February 2014, which resolved to grant planning permission for the scheme.  The University understand the development is expected to be completed in summer 2017, and ready for occupation by in September 2017.  QMUL are working with Alumno and their facilities partner Derwent, to agree terms for a 25 year lease of the completed scheme, which we consider will provide excellent, well located accommodation for our students.”

David Tatham – Modern Warehouse

“Alumno have created beautiful communal areas in their student housing projects. The spaces are light and uncluttered, perfect for classic Scandinavian furniture with its simple, modernist aesthetic.

The original vintage pieces by two of Denmark’s most celebrated designers, Hans Wegner and Borge Mogensen add a quality that would be at home in a top class boutique hotel anywhere in the world …

Working with the Alumno team on their interior projects is a straightforward process as their vision is clear and coherent and their attention to detail is unsurpassed.”

Swami Atma Gyanam saraswati (Joss Guin).

‘Seeing this beautiful building bought back to life as our yoga studio and cafe is a dream come true. Alumno have been wonderful. They gave us the opportunity to have input at the planning stage and invested in the fabric of this important old building. So we are blessed to have the beauty and history of this Grade 2 Listed building, combined with bespoke design that comes from an understanding of the needs of yoga practice. That makes this something Norwich really needs, a beautiful dedicated yoga space for the whole community.’

STUDENT ARTISTS:

Jiaxing Zou, 2017 – Coventry Uni graduate whose work was purchased for display in the Leamington Scheme

‘Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, design is how it works.’ said by Steve Jobs.  For me, design is not only about having technical skills or financial reward, but also a way of handling things and a view of the world. What is more, it is the love of life and pursuit of inner self. Every movie is like a microcosm of reality; everyone treats the world from different perspective. The series of the film poster designs reflect my understanding and thinking of the world, which is the deepest memory picture in my mind – simple, clear, interesting, strong and powerful.

I hope my work will inspire future generations of students living at Leamington.

Daniel Leighton – Goldsmiths graduate 2016 whose work was purchased for the Former Southwark Town Hall

And finally about you and alumno developments purchasing my degree show; I can only say that I feel lucky that anybody outside of my immediate family wanted any of them, and so to have somebody come along and buy my degree show was beyond the rather paltry expectations that I had harboured (and treated with a lot of scepticism myself) for the prints themselves and more importantly it is always nice to know that someone actually likes the work you are making.

Kieren Western – NUA graduate website quote – work displayed All Saints Green 2015

“It is a great pleasure and a fantastic opportunity to be working with you [alumno development] by providing work for the new halls of residence. After graduating from NUA I have unsuspectingly thrown myself in the deep end by following my once suppressed dream of becoming a freelance artist and art technician and the confidence and the experience of having early sales such as these is a fantastic and encouraging morale boost in my new line of work. I am really looking forward to seeing my work up in the new halls of residence and hope that they might inspire some new students such as I was inspired by graduates work during my first year.”

Lacey Law – NUA graduate – work displayed ASG 2015

It means a great deal to have my degree show work purchased for display, as it not only gives me confidence in my work as a young artist, but also gives me great comfort for these particular works to be appreciated as objects of beauty for others, in an actively creative environment, hopefully leading to further inspiration.

Abi Baikie – Work purchased for Display at East Shore, St Andrews 2014

Starting out as a young artist can be a very daunting time. I have recently graduated from Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee, and it is due to the support from companies such as Alumno that I am able to continue my practice and advance to the next step in my career. Through purchasing some of my art work, Alumno has encouraged me and opened up further opportunities. I am grateful that my work will be on display to the public and in a safe place to be viewed and appreciated by others. Thank you!

Lily Beattie Work purchased for Display at East Shore, St Andrews 2014

Quote for your website – “Having a piece of my own art work purchased from Alumno Developments has been a fantastic opportunity for myself as an artist just starting out as it has allowed my work to be shown both on their website and within a public venue. This giving my art work another platform”

Daphne Percy – Work displayed in Aberdeen –  Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee graduate‘I hope my work will inspire future generations of students living at Powis Place.’
