The Salvation Army Band
Over the years Alumno has supported many community projects with local stakeholders from the cities and towns they have worked in.
We have worked with the Park Hill Residents Association in Sheffield, the Sceaux Residents Association and Theatre Peckham in Southwark, SPACE studios in various locations including an Alumno bursary competition in association with Goldsmiths University of London and are working with Mercy in Action charity in Bath.
For the opening of Ravilious House on Lewes Road in Brighton we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor along with members of the Brighton and Hove Heritage Commission and the Salvation Army Band. The Lord Mayor unveiled a plaque to commemorate the local people killed by a WWII bomb.
We were one of the sponsors of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival for several years which was a fantastic way to celebrate this great city which has 3 Alumno student schemes.
Alumno were involved in the “Off the Shelf” literary festival in Sheffield – having a display in the Alumno pop up shop in the city centre.
Local residents close to the Neville and Sheraton Houses in Durham benefited from a public sculpture park open to all as well as a community room on site.
“In most of our schemes we include community cafes and community halls, creches, artists` studios, restaurants, retail outlets and community education facilities (including Peckham Theatre). Integrating a range of community resources is important. It`s placemaking. It`s about enhancing the community, not just building student accommodation”
One of the key things that makes Alumno stand out as a developer is our focus on the communities that surround and use our buildings. We work closely with all our partners – including the local residents, the universities and the students – to create buildings that fit seamlessly into their surroundings and support a sense of place. Each of our developments has to give something back to the community and build a lasting legacy, below we have set out some of the projects we have integrated into our buildings and key ways we have worked to support the local community.
To create workable, liveable student accommodation up to a high standard, Alumno involves students from start to finish to ensure the end result of their projects fit for their prospective occupants. Engaging with students and gaining invaluable feedback from their future residents is essential.
