Six-storey success
Home to two prestigious universities serving more than 22,000 full-time students, Aberdeen is an important educational hub. The Scottish city was identified by Alumno as having a major need for high quality purpose-built student accommodation backed by considerable demand. Following extensive research, a corner property with a vacant retail trade unit, Powis Place, was chosen as an ideal site for development.
“It’s within easy walking and cycling distance of both the University of Aberdeen and the City Centre,” explains Alumno managing director David Campbell. “It’s also located on one of the city’s main arterial roads running North/South, so has good transport connections. The site seemed ideal, so we submitted a proposal to build a modern six-storey student living space with associated management facilities and amenities, which was accepted.”
To deliver the project, Alumno selected an expert team, consisting of local Aberdeen advisors, to assist in working with the local council and community to deliver the best possible and suitable development. By August 2016, the sleek, modern building was complete and ready to accept its first residents in September. Powis Place now accommodates 196 Aberdeen University students in ensuite and studio units, ranging from two to nine bedroom cluster flats, all finished to a high standard.
The property also features spacious, light communal lounges, ideal for socialising after a hard day of lectures, landscaped outdoor spaces, car parking for up to 20 vehicles, secure bike storage and on-site laundry facilities. There’s wifi throughout the building, along with CCTV and secure door entry to residents’ security. Powis Place even has a bus stop right outside for quick and easy access to the Aberdeen city centre, along with a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants close by.
“Powis Place has already proved to be a big hit with students and has transformed a vacant retail space into an attractive modern building, improving the area,” says Campbell.
