powis-web-1Officials have approved Alumno’s 196-bed student accommodation at 2 Powis Place, close to the University of Aberdeen, after the developer made modifications to its initial plans to include additional car parking.

The Alumno building, intended to set a new standard for student accommodation in the city, was first proposed as a “zero-car” development however, it will now feature parking for 20 cars and spaces for 70 bicycles.

David Campbell, managing director of Alumno Developments, hopes the project will be the first of many in the city for his firm.

“We’ve worked very hard to meet the requests and requirements of the city’s planning department and it has been a truly collaborative effort by the whole team, that has maintained our focus on delivering much-needed, high quality student accommodation stock for Aberdeen,” says Mr Campbell.

“Providing high quality accommodation enhances what is already renowned as an excellent student experience in Aberdeen, enhancing it reputation as a key educational hub whilst boosting retention of a student body which contributes more than £470 million per year to the economy, more than £350 million of which is on off-campus living costs.”

Designed by Carson and Partners architects, Powis Place has been designed to meet the globally-recognised Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM)’s exacting standards for best practice in new construction, used internationally to describe and measure environmental performance of new buildings and communities.

Featuring an expansive of glass facing onto Powis Place, and a range of modern amenities in communal out- and indoor spaces, the development will be managed by an on-site team.

Preparatory works at Powis Place are due to begin soon, ahead of construction expected to complete in August 2016.
