July has been quite a month for us, as our new sites get underway
We started the month in Birmingham as our site was recently granted planning permission. We’ve been working with Writing West Midlands to engage the city’s new poet laureate, Casey Bailey, as lead poet on the development’s proposed Poetry Garden. Bailey has also agreed to run writing workshops with pupils from close by Selly Park Girls’ School, who will contribute to the poetry garden, as well as digital augmented reality projects designed to engage young people in the local community. We can’t wait to show the finished product!
Our Office Manager and the Development Manager took a trip to Norwich to see how Benedicts Gate was performing. Benedicts Gate was completed last September, with students also moving in around the same time. It was great to see the communal areas and site in use with much positive feedback.
And finally, we got some great progress photos of our new site in Manchester at Church Inn. This new site will consist of 62 self-contained studio apartments that will feature their own kitchenette and bathroom. Each typical floor will feature eight studio apartments together with a communal area for residents.
That’s it for this month’s wrap up. Check back next month to see what we get up to in August
