The scheme for 221 student beds, which includes ground floor office incubation units, a new public walkway & opened up railway arches, has received consent from Southwark Council. The scheme by Alumno Developments for UAL will be a few minute’s walk away from the university’s London College of Communication campus at Elephant and Castle. LCC will run the incubation units for graduates to support them in new start up ventures helping to create a busy and inviting place from the outset. The proposed attractive new walk way along with public realm improvements helped win support from Southwark’s regeneration team in spite of a loss in employment floor space and the university’s support was key to overcoming councillors’ reluctance for more student housing in the area. The building has been designed to the university’s space standards and will achieve a BREEAM rating of very good.
