Don’t Demolish Old Buildings. Park Hill an Inspiration to Others for Regeneration

With many old buildings being demolished throughout the UK, it’s more important than ever to highlight the ones that remain. Until recently, Park Hill  stood over looking Sheffield for many generations, abandoned and in disarray. Fortunately for this site it was classed as a grade II listed building and is now getting the attention that it so dearly deserves. Park Hill is currently undergoing mass regeneration by Urban Splash. Alumno were lucky enough to be granted permission for phase three of the regeneration with its student accommodation scheme Beton House.

Unlike Park Hill, many buildings are currently being knocked down and re-built with a more suitable replacement. In the past there has been debate about whether this was the best option for the climate and re-build a more environmental friendly option, this is now widely considered a mistake as the amount of carbon emitted during the construction of the new building is more then a regeneration project.
