Full English is a documentation of the traditional English food and drink industry within   the county of Derbyshire. The photographs highlight Englishness and remaining traditionalism within the country’s food and drink produce, which remains highly concentrated in Derbyshire. The picturesque county is timeless and reflects a period in history where produce was all locally made and had a small number of food miles. Conversations with employees and business owners revealed the importance of buying locally, and explored topics which are challenging small businesses, such as Brexit and modernised shopping trends. Community spirit and resilience are both essential in maintaining the businesses’ success and the owners are all extremely grateful for the loyalty of their customers. The project is a snapshot of what the English food and drink industry used to be like countrywide, whilst also an insight into the remaining people within the traditional market which could soon become traces of a lost trade. by Ellie Bell, MA Commercial Photography at Nottingham Trent University.
