Stratford student beds reach new heights
By Joanna Bourke | Residential | 28-02-2014 | 13:14 | Print
The London Legacy Development Corporation has approved plans for the capital’s tallest student flats tower.
Alumno Developments
has secured consent for a
£45m, 26-storey block at
206-214 Stratford High Street, E15.
Construction of the MJP Architects-designed 431-bed scheme will begin in the summer, with completion expected for 2016.
Alumno managing director David Campbell said he expected the scheme to remain London’s tallest student tower for many years as a result of pressure from some of the capital’s councils to prioritise sites for other uses, and inhibit student development through high community infrastructure levy rates.
GL Hearn advised on planning.

Stratford student tower gets green light
28 February 2014 | By Hannah Brenton
Alumno Developments has won planning consent for a £30m, 431 room student tower on Stratford High Street.
The London Legacy Development Corporation’s planning decisions committee resolved to grant consent for the 26-storey building on Tuesday 25th February, subject to referral to the GLA.
The scheme – designed by MJP Architects – will redevelop a former Esso petrol station at 206-214 Stratford High Street.
The student housing specialist currently has several projects in progress, in Glasgow, St. Andrews, Aberdeeen, London, Norwich, Durham and Birmingham.
It was given the green light to redevelop Southwark Town Hall and a further consent gained in St Andrews, both in December.
